89 740GL RPM Sensor

As far as I know, when you crank, it detects that the flywheel is turning (that's why it is positioned right on top of the bell housing) and sends the pulse to the control unit, which engages spark and fuel... without this pulse, car cannot start/run. I do not think it causes stalling issues, but I guess it CAN in some cases....

BTW be carefull changing it, IF it breaks (it's hard to pull out sometimes), then you would need to pull the motor or tranny/bellhousing to get to it - not fun !!!
