checked faq, now what? 700

Okay, I checked the faq right before I went home last night and I still don't think the "hot start" is what my problem is so I figured I would ask you all.
My car is 91 745 turbo. Last weekend on the advice of a freind I took off all intake hoses and intercooler and cleaned it all very thoroughly including the MAF and IAC valve with related hoses. My problem has been a weird off power idle like when I come to a stop or when slowing to make a turn or even sometimes when I get home and put the car in park it will do this vrooovrooovrooovrooom type idle. Hard to explain I guess but the rpm's fluctuate between 500 and 800. The only time the car dies is when I stop at say the gas station, run in and get a drink and come out and start it, it will do this for about 5 seconds and die unless I step on the throttle real quick then it smooths out and is fine. I can do this when at a light and 50% of the time it will smooth back again. I don't know if this is relevant but I have a fuel pressure gauge on my fuel rail and when I turn the car off for five minutes the pressure goes to nothing. If the car is running at a smooth idle the pressure is only 37psi. I thought it was supposed to be like 42psi or close to that. The prussure does go up a little if you give it throttle though. I guess this is enought questions. Thanks for you help. BTW, when I start the car after I come out of the station for a minute I get a real strong gas smell when I have to keep starting it.
