We have a 1991 740 Turbo wagon with a 134-specific compressor, receiver/dryer and all o-rings. We've had the A/C die in several different ways in the last year. Last fall, the A/C stopped working overnight. Dealer claims to have fixed a bad ground on the radiator electric cooling fan (which was working and makes no sense to me!), but whatever they did, the A/C worked for about 3 weeks. Then it started to work intermittently. Dealer replaced the climate control unit ($600 - OUCH!) and that seemed to fix the problem. A/C worked until last week - granted we only used it a few times so far this year. Now it will not work at all. I found a local independent shop that actually rebuilds the climate control units for 1/3 the cost of a replacement, but if it needs that again, I'd really like them to figure out and solve the real problem. We have an appointment in a two weeks to have the A/C fixed at said independent shop. BTW, the A/C is the only automotive system I refuse to work on myself.
