Timing belt adjustment

"Clockwise standing in front of the car, looking at the engine. Right?"

Yes. This forces the belt toward the tensioner, which puts the slack at the tensioner. This allows the tensioner to move inward to take up the slack.

"How do I turn the crankshaft?"

Put a socket on the front pulley bolt head.

Often, with a broken-in engine, you can grab the pulley with your hands and turn it -- but access is limited from above.

See if you can get to it from underneath.
