Identify the rear clunk

posted by  someone claiming to be birmingham volvo on  Tue May 25 21:13 CST 2004 [RELATED]

whenever i move off from a dead stop really quickly or when i'm driving slowly in places that have lots of bumps...i hear clunks coming from the rear of the car?

What could this be? I've checked left/right up/down movement on the tires themselves and they are fine.?
