The flanges on manifolds for FI (i & e) are 5/8" thick. The flanges on carb systems are 1/2" thick.

It becomes a problem when using a FI exhaust on a carb'd car. Some folks wind up using half-washers, or other half-assed techniques.

Getting a machine shop to mill 1/8" off an FI exhaust manifold isn't that expensive and is the right way to do things.
