Pearl;

The spring holds the (overbackpressure relief ballvalve) closed against its seat...if its a used oil pump, check spring for wear, replace worn spring! I saw a spring one time during a tear-down which had about a third of its wire diameter worn away from contact with the housing...I'm glad I caught that one before it failed alltogether...!
