Turn signals

Well in the process of hooking up electrical a trailer, I managed to kill my turn signals on my '78 242. The four way hazards continue to work, but the turn signals are dead as a doornail. As far as I can tell the fuses look okay. I also tore into my dash and found the only relay that seemed to have anything to do with signals on the drivers side of the radio, but pulling and replacing only disabled and re-enabled the 4-ways. Now as far as the wiring work went, I simply cut out an old trailer wiring hookup (wrong type for trailer) and spliced in a new connector, soldered and taped up. The turn signals continued to work up to this point and only failed when someone who will remain nameless was mucking with the bulbs at the back of the trailer. Any suggestions?
