temporary check engine at start up 700 1989

I'm having the same kinda problem with my 89 740 GL, some days it will start up just fine, no problems at all, and idle find right off the start, other days (getting to be alot more lately) it will start up and I will have to keep my foot on the gas to keep the idle up where its supposed to be, and it will idle low for a while, even after driving it around a bit.
sometimes I'll just turn the car off and restart it and it sometimes fixes it. Also sometimes when the idle is low I can put the car in Park or Nutural and it will idle fine, but if I put it in drive it bogs down and idles low...

I'm a retard when it comes to cars, but if I can take it apart I can put it back together, any suggestions would be cool... where should I start? fule pump? filter?
