Testing removed fuel pump.

Ok. Finally all signs lead to a bad fuel pump. It ran for a second when jiggling the wires now nothing. I am going to remove the fuel pump and seal up the tank while I am working on the pump. How long should I wait before I test the pump for the gas fumes to evaporate? Is there a procedure for testing the removed fuel pump (it is a 1995 945)? What wires are the power and ground, there are 4 wires - pink, black, and two green and white striped wires?
