You say, AFTER a good drive- does the noise happen when the car is stationary? If so, sounds like a bad motor-mount maybe..? In my experience (tho I'm certainly no expert), a ball-joint or tie-rod that's clunking isn't coy about it, it'll CLUNK every time you hit a bump.
