740 16 valve hard to start

JUst bought this car and replaced timing belt and broken balance shaft belt. It cranks for long periods before finally starting. After starting it seems to run ok. Compression is 150, 150, 150, 165 from front to back. When I bought it it ran but balance belt was broken. Any ideas as to why it takes so long to start??
