tachie no workie

Good morning all!!!

I just swapped my instrument cluster in my 1989 245 for the one that came from my 1988 245 (which met an early demise at 245K). The reason for the swap was the cluster in the 1989 had no odometer function. and I wanted the tach that I had in the 1988.

Whole story: 1988 purchased with no odometer and 118k on clock, purchased a K9800 cluster on an auction site with 130k and swapped the tach in to replace the clock. Installed the cluster with 130k and hooked the red/white wite to the tach but have no tach function, tried the tach in the 245k cluster and still no tach.

Is the something that I missed as the tach worked in the 1988, the only difference between the two cars is that the 1988 was an m47 5 speed and the 1989 (new car) is an aw70 automatic.....so what did I miss?????

Perplexed with no tachie...........

Thanks for your help in advance!!!!
