I have been secretly hoping for the 740 to fail for a while now. It refuses. So it's hard for me to judge how long I will have it. I am very frugal with cars and will not get a new one until I have to. If the 740 would just die already, I'd buy a 940 or something.
I still have to do some crazy commutes, but not as bad as in 2003 (I put on about 30,000 miles last year). So this is my motivation for fixing these. The other day I felt like dying when I got stuck in traffic with the heat rolling off the asphault.
So I guess my point is, I expect the 740 to live on long enough to justify the expense and effort. As for the 240, that's my utility car. It runs so well I expect it to last more than a few years. So that fix would be justified.
Maybe the answer is to fix both.
