Thanks for the response....

The Volvo supplied blank is made from metal, which is not soft. It is meant to be notched only.

I originally bought a blank and went to several lock-smiths and key copiers, the first thing they did was check the key with a magnet - ohh, it's magnetic, sorry, can't copy it... soft metals only (non-ferrous).
