cat condition? 200 1986

Thanks SL8, how do I know if the cat's bad? Do I have to take it somewhere? Or just assume that if there aren't any holes in it or smoke that everything's fine?

As for the power gain, even being a previously jackass driver until insurance claimed the civic, I haven't really had it high in the rpms. Just tend to cruise along. It only gets half the gas mileage the civic ever did. (filled up this morning, 23mpg) I'm not in a hurry, and the windsurf board perpetualy strapped to the top attracts enough attention.
