1983 jetronic no idle problem and runs rich

Check the fuel pressure regulator on front end of fuel rail (not very expensive). Just a guess, but easy to check. Pull off vacuum hose and see if smell gas (broken diaphram). You can also pull the vacuum line off while running and see if makes a difference. If not then it is not functioning.
