O/D idiot light 200 1990

Anyone have any idea why my idiot light for the overdrive sometimes comes on and goes off at will? Could it be the relay switch? When I push the O/D button on the gearshift lever nothing happens. The O/D does work fine at higher speeds. Thanks for all fellow Volvo lovers.
