Have you installed a radio lately? I only ask because my aunt had a radio installed in her Volvo and they accidentally cut an extra wire behind the radio. It happened to run the headlights and the symptoms are exactly what you just mentioned. You need to follow the wires from the switch and make sure that they are still together.
