When my intake manifold gasket went the symptoms were much different. The engine missed at idle and the check engine came on after a little of this. It started fine and had good performance.

I would think in terms of fuel delivery for this symptom. Maybe the pump is getting weak so the 1 second of priming as the key is turned is insuficient to get the fuel pressure up? Maybe the check valve in the pump assembly has failed?
