Thanks, Jim.
I have had the Z for a long time, and it is a work in progress. I am not a newbie to the world of engine swaps, and that's why I posed the question of what other engines besides the old stand-by's of Ford and Chevy V8's have been successfully swapped into 200 series cars...
The Z gets acceptable fuel economy on the highway (right at 20mpg with 80mph cruise), but the 13mpg or so around town really was beginning to hurt in the wallet a little bit.
The B21 in my 242 is a good engine, though perhaps a little tired. Previous owner reckons about 300k miles on the car (odometer quit a LONG time ago at 139K). The car also has a 4 speed M46 with no overdrive, and the "buzz" in the car from running at over 4000 rpms on the highway kinda gets to you after a while. Can't be doing great things for fuel economy, either.
So, basically what I am looking for is a good swap that has decent power and retains really good fuel economy (and a 5 speed transmission!) in a package that does not weight more than the B21 engine that is in the car right now.
