My Starter Eats Bolts.... 700

I posted a similar issue in the 900 forum concerning my ’93 940. A something actually shot out the front of the tranny access plate (tech image 3193, 3/27/04). It sounded like nuts and bolts grinding in a SS blender. I was going 70MPH at the time. Under advice of porkface, I dropped the tranny and found the issue. It was a missing seal carrier mounting bolt. The bolts in my car didn’t have captive lock washers but I don’t know where else yours could have come from.

All the other bolts were “snug”. We’ll I made the most out of it by replacing the seal and remounted the carrier using a little Locktite 242 to prevent it from happening again. I’d drive on. You may or may not develop a leak. Just keep an eye open.

The photo shows the rear of the engine as I found it. One of the flywheel to engine bolts was loose too (image 3554) but there is not enough space between the torque converter and the flywheel to allow it to back all the out..
