Ignore the speedo instructions. Those didn't work at all. Use a (cheap $18) mustang cable and pickup (not so cheap, but it should be in the tranny as purchased), and mate the Volvo speedo end of a cable onto it.

I don't know about tunnels. I doubt width is much different, but the height may be a factor, since the t5 shifter base comes right up next to the hole in the 73-74 hump.
