As long as the lamp has an unswitched-line going to it too (which our cars do) - it should be easy to incorporate the delay without any additional wiring. Come to think of it, even if it didn't have the unswitched line, you could use a heavy-duty capacitor's discharge to achieve the delay... Lousy design though :)
