How big is it? Not many backwards tacks out there... the only one I know of would be like the one in my '53 Jag...

Its cable driven, and runs via cable off the exhaust cam on the DOHC engine. I expect you'd be real hard pressed to get it to work on a Volvo... you'd have to drive it off something that spins 1/2 engine speed (cam speed or distributor), and anti-clockwise.

Some of the later ('60s) Jags have a tach generator... such that the tach itself is actually a voltmeter or amp meter, but that doesn't sound like what you've got...

Got any pictures? I reckon you should just give it to someone that can use it like myself :-)
