Another example of "oil and rubber don't mix!"
Oil leaks contribute to early failures of top waterpump seals, belts, radiator hoses, and timing belts, the last of which has catastrophic effects for owners of 16-valve 740 and 940 models, all 960s, 850s, 70, 80 and 90 series Volvos.
Those of us with the regular 8-valve motors are still subject to failure, but not bankruptcy from oil-weakened timing belts.
Oil attacks the rubber parts, making them swell and split. If you see hoses that are bulging around the clamps, fix the oil leaks and replace the hoses before something worse happens.
