There are an increasing number of articles in the VClassics archive that have degraded with the test of time and more experience. The breakerless article could stand some revision, I agree.
On the vclassics installation, it appears they are powering the module from the fusepanel. I believe the switched fuses lose their power when the key is turned to the start position (to allow maximum power to the starting system). They have the diode connected to supply power via the green wire on the starter when the key is in the start position, and then from the fuse panel in the run position. It would work, but is hardly ideal. Without the diode to the starter, the module would lose power when the key is turned to start in their diagram.
That makes no sense to me either, in fact. There's a spare terminal on the OE ignition switch (normally unused) which is hot in both Run and Start positions. I'd power it right from there and canx the diode.
Thanks for the clarification on wiring the ballast IF an external ballast is needed. That makes sense.
