The problem, as I see it, is that Jarrod moved HIS DNS servers too.

So when people went looking for brickboard.com records they were told to check the hosts:

ns1.denizen.net
ns.brickboard.com

The addresses of which had both changed with the move. Had Jarrod actually used a domain name that hadn't change, the appearance of down time would probably have been much shorter.
