So far, haven't broken a vacuum nipple on a flame trap housing when installing a new one (Scan-Tech parts from FCP Groton). -but I have had a few break when removing them for cleaning after they've had some significant heat soak time under the hood.
The white plastic flame trap inserts that come with the "flame-trap-kit" are aftermarket, and usually obstruct the flow too much to be worthwhile installing. The metal coiled flame trap cores are OEM, have good flow characteristics, but are kind of hard to find. I just bought a box of them on eBay, but otherwise I haven't found a reliable aftermarket source. -In most cases I don't install any kind of insert/screen in the flame trap housing (per instructions of an updated Volvo Technical Service Buletin).
Lastly, check your Scan-Tech flame trap housings for unwanted plastic material left over from the molding process. I frequently have to cut away at the plastic flash with a screw driver to open up the vacuum nipple from the inside.
God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
