It turned out to be on the side of the shift extender on the driver's side. I guess my trans was taken from an 1800ES or similar. It has a 3-prong switch, one for power, one for reverse lights, one for seatbelt alarm (!). I connected one to ground, and the 'power' lead to my relay, creating an on-off link to ground. This works for my setup.
Unfortunately, when this configuration is put in a 122 trans tunnel, the clearance is pretty terrible. The switch is almost crushed against the side. Not a lot of thought went into this retrofit.
Thanks to all for advice.
