My 87 volvo 240 auto tranny runs only on 3rd gear because the OD relay and the solenoid are shots. To replace them cost almost half of the car and that is out of the question. I want to know if I can bypass or disconnect the solenoid function completly, another word make a permanent flow passage or block the flow of oil permanently. But I need to understand how the solenoid supposes to work first.
