My '90 244 had been having a "clunk" that sounded like it was just below my left foot when I was driving. I finally got the courage to replace the bushings. I ordered the Harbor Freight 20 ton press ($200 delivered from California to Iowa) and the bushings from FCPGroton.com. When I finally got the bushings pressed out I could see that the steel sleeve of the rear bushing was seized to the shaft and had separated from the rubber. Some heat helped get it off the shaft, pressed the new ones on, and the ride feels great. By the way, the exhaust parts department at Autozone is a good place to find fittings big enough to receive the rear bushing when you press it out. I used 1/2" drive sockets to press the bushing out of the control arm.
