Writeup is coming 200 1989

Don't worry, I'm doing (what I think is) a thorough job of photographing the process of switching out the lights. I'll hopefully get things written up before my Christmas break is over, and when I do I'll post the link so that all hopefully Brickboarders can bookmark it for future use.

I totally understand the sentiments that there isn't enough room--I'm still not totally sure everything is going to cohere very well, even with the narrower grille. (I was told it's from a 740 Turbo, but you'd have to ask Dave Barton, who sold it to me, for confirmation.) Tomorrow I think we're going to trim some of the hidden parts of the inside area on the headlight frames in order to make things fit better.

Currently I'll be running the sealed beams. A relay kit from Daniel Stern is in the mail to me (I think it'll work with these, and hopefully it is also compatible with ECE beams, should I upgrade in the future), but I'm not sure if I'll get that in soon (this front end is going to be a pain to disassemble!). tjts1, your car is looking good, and I'm sure you're enjoying the extra light. Good luck finding some sort of filler material!

A caveat, though--this project is really a "see what works" deal. For example, we found that it was best to attach the headlight buckets via bolts running through the radiator support. It's not what we had expected to do, but it appears to be sufficiently solid. Again, I have no idea how we'll actually get everything together in the front end (all of these parts are truthfully too wide--there's going to be overlap), but it's simply a matter of moving things around and seeing what can fit where. I am taking pictures and hopefully they can be of use to someone else doing a conversion, even if they don't go down this path. I'm not sure if I would even recommend anyone to try it, considering how easy the 7-inch round mounting jobs (appear) to go!
