I'd be looking first @ the fuel side.

Filter / clean, well sealed
Lift pump / propper function

Were this a pre Duramax GM, I'd be looking to replace the lift (supply) pump.



That said, there are a couple others here with quite a bit of expierence with the same engine you have. Best of luck.
