Sorry about the problems. Read over the procedure for pulling the fault codes. I just print out a few pages and hi-light the steps. Don’t worry, I really don’t think you can break anything if you push the wrong button. http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm If you have to take it in, at least you can make an educated choice of options.
This is not the right thing to do but if you don’t want to pull the code(s) disconnect the negative battery connection for minute to reset. If it wasn’t a nuisance code, it will return, in a minute, in day or in the near future. The check engine light means that you have an emissions related issue and its not doing the car, your pocket and the environment any favors.
