740 chains or cables? 700

what do you guys think about chaining (or cables) up a 740 i rember some thing a long time ago talking about clearance, so my question is have any of you ever had to chain/cable up? any problems? it's a 740 TI with after market suspention (stiffer) and a 4 speed stick and 5th as OD. =D
