Fuel pump problem? common problems? HELP! 700 1990

Hi,
I got my licensce two weeks ago, my dad gave me his 1990 740GL (260,000) manual trans.

He asked to borrow it to visit family and on the drive back it just died. He said that there was no warning noise - it just stopped. He thinks its the fuel pump or an electrical problem with the fuel pump.

When i try to start the car it turns but doesnt catch if that makes any sense.

Are there any common problems with this year/model that i should know about? Does anyone know what it could be? Thanks!
