My son's 81 did stuff like that when a wire from the ignition module to the coil was broken. Apparently it was touching most of the time, but would occasionally separate, then touch again. Finally it broke completely and we figured out what was happening.

Once the harness plug to my 81's ignition module wasn't tightly connected and it caused intermittent problems, but the no-run periods lasted about 5-10 minutes until the connection cooled down a bit.

Could be a critical electrical connection on your car is corroded a bit and needs cleaning.
