That is a great description of how to troubleshoot the booster, should go into the FAQ's.
One very cold winter many years ago in Mpls I pumped the clutch slave cylinder right out of the bore ('76 280Z). Fluid was so thick the pressure plate wouldn't push the arm and cylinder back.
