More than likely no relationship alternator to coil -- that is the charging system to ignition system -- they're seperate systems. You may want to place a voltmeter on the battery and actually check battery voltage -- however, considering that it's cranking the engine suggests that there's probably enough voltage for the coil to fire. Once the car starts and is running you can check the alternator output with the vm on the battery. I believe the range is somewhere around 13-15 volts but will let others confirm.
