The S1, S2 and Sl solenoids are found in the transmission. Just dropping the trans. pan gains access to all 3 solenoids. They are not difficult to replace and cost ~$100-140 each depending on your source.

The S1 and S2 solenoids control the shifting of gears, the SL solenoid controls the lockup of the torque convertor. The S1 solenoid is the rear most solenoid and controls Reverse, first and second gears.
