Hello Johnathan
Thanks for posing this question. We have a 1995 940 with the same problem and I have asked others who have 940's if their digital thermometer had a light and now I realize that most of the lights have expired. Yesterday I replaced our lamp, Volvo part number 966326, and I can see why so many have not been fixed. It could be an expensive repair if done at a repair shop. I attempted to remove the lamp using an open end 5/16 wrench but gave up. The area is very tight on a 1995 and the lamp was relatively easily replaced by removing the instrument panel. The only real difficulty is removing the dash bezel as one has to push quite hard on the tabs to release the bezel. The tabs can be reached through small rectangular opennings at either side of the bezel (looking from the driver's seat). It would be good idea to check the other dash lamps at the same time.
Thanks again
Doug
My 94 945T has a small digital temperature guage in the lower left hand corner of the instrument panel, below the clock. It is a very handy feature, however, the guage is not illuminated at night. All I get is a red light that comes on when the temperature drops below 36. Is there a bulb burned out, or once the sun goes down am I only to know whether the temperature is above freezing or not?
