The correct name of the handle is a breakover handle, so called
because of the knuckle joint at the business end which allows the
socket to be at any angle from the handle. If you have enough space,
the breakover will allow you to screw or unscrew more or less continuously
rather than having to "take another bite". Usually they are longer than
other socket handles and thus allow you to apply more torque to the
socket, convenient for breaking loose seized parts, hence the slang
term "breaker bar".
I use a 1" box wrench on my oil drain plugs and it works great.
Don't use a crescent wrench if you can avoid it, you will bugger up
the corners of the hex.
