Earlier this week I purchased a 1991 740 S/W. It has an auto trans. 159,000 miles.
The car will be used by my 18 year old son. He wasn't real keen on it being a station wagon but it is black with all of the side and rear glass very darkly tinted so it has some youth appeal. Plus he figures that he can put a killer sound system in the back.
This is the first Volvo I have ever owned. My only previous Swedish car was a 1969 SAAB 99 that I had in college 33 years ago.
The body is in good shape and the car runs OK. I intend to immediately replace the timing belt, do a tune up, and change all the fluids and filters.
I've only found two problems: the fuel gauge does not work and the clock (which runs) cannot be reset.
I would appreciate any advice anyone has about those two problems and any other possible problems areas I should be concerned about or any preventive maintenance I should do.
Thanks
