Laine - I too have had volvo's save loved ones - several times (including wife and daughter rear ended in my 'perfect '90 European-bought 244 at a stop sign by an F250 with failed brakes); that's why we 'love' them. Your car may be easily repairable, BUT first ensure that there is no frame damage as others have mentioned.
