Got the strap installed, ended up with about a 3" piece of belting left over,
not EVEN big enough to put in the culch heap!
Thanks for your help in this.
For those who are curious, the straps were broken when my wife spun out over
in Central Arkansas on the way here from Panama by way of Charleston and
Augusta. Ran over a piece of glass broken in a proto-tornado in Alabama
where we spent the night, and in the heavy rain in Arkansas, didn't recognize
that a rear tire was going flat. Spun out onto the right shoulder, rear end
first into a dirt bank. Had the dog and the cat in the car also, in cages.
Nobody injured but she was badly shaken and got about 5# of dirt inside the
tire in the operation. I was a couple miles ahead in the Yellow Peril with
no wipers so I was keeping the speed up until I noticed I didn't see her
behind me any more. Stopped for a while under an overpass and waited for
about 15 min, but she didn't show up, so I finally got off and went back,
saw her on the shoulder (A JB Hunt trucker and an independent missionary to
Brazil had stopped to help her, changed the tire for her and got her back
up on the shoulder by that time.) Had to go another 7 miles back to get back
on the highway to get to where she was. Finally made it in that night,
somewhat the worse for wear but only damage was to checkstraps, shocks and
1 tire and wheel, and some emotional damage.
