No O/D! 200 1987

I was driving last night and the O/D was working fine the I stop the car (I kept the car runing) and then started driving again and it was as if I push the O/D switch because it just turned off. I pushed the switch several times but nothing happend. The car is a 87' 240 with a AW70. Before this when I pushed the O/D switch there was a snap in the speakers (the stereo is all rewired) but the O/D would go on and off fine. What should I check to fix the problem or do I need to replace the O/D solenoid.
