advice on 700/900 safety features and maintenance

Dear all...
I have been a (happy!) Volvo owner for about a year and a half ('89 745T, over 202k now) --my first, and maybe last if it lasts another 30 yrs, Volvo -- and would like to pull in my father who'll soon need a replacement car. I've tried with my wife... if only Volvo made hatchbacks (she has trouble finding parking due to the nature of her job)...

Because of finances I'd zero in on 700/900 rather than V70s but am a bit confused about "safety" driving features on 700 vs. 900 models:
-do all post 1990 models have traction control (ABS)?
-what about Limited Slip Differential?
-from what year on do they have dual airbags? only on late 900s?

Also your ratings regarding maintenance ease/costs of V6 engines (GLE models) versus in-line engines (I believe BF230) or even diesel... and any other commments would be very much appreciated!!....
