Question? Are you using a Volvo oem oil filter and/or a Mann oil filter. Using a non Volvo oil filter can bring a slow death to a B18 or B20 engine. I used to work at a Volvo dealership for ten years and during that time I saw quite a few Volvos towed in that had thrown the number 4 rod. It would crash through the block and smash the starter. The one thing that all these engines had in common was a non-Volvo oil filter. Just a word to the wise.
Did you tighten the cam nut good when you replaced the timing gear? It is possible that it has to much play.
