Well I attacked the broken stud in the exhaust manifold (where it connects to the header pipe) as suggested by some of you. I drilled out the stud as close as I could w/o hitting the threads. The problem was I couldnt get the remained stuff out of there w/o damaging the threads. So I brought my manifold to my local parts store (carquest) and the guy showed me how to use a tap. I've always wanted to learn how to do that. Imagine making new threads and having it actually work. So I ran home and went to work. I drilled out some more because the tap wouldnt start. I stuck my vise grips on and turned out new threads. The stud was a little crooked but it worked fine. I was thrilled. Put it back together put on a new mid muffler and axle pipe and new hangers on the muffler. I had a heck of a time getting thoses FCP groton hangers to go on. I had to use the old one that was stretched out and one new one. But I'm not happy with not being able to get 2 new ones on. Knowing my luck the old one will break. Is there a trick for stretching those hangers on. I was using pry bars and everthing else. Another pair of hands might have helped. Also noticed that the cat to the mid muffler connection is leaking water, steam and exhaust--minor but shouldnt be that way. I have it pushed on enough and it still leaks--clamp is tight. Could it be that I am putting new pipe onto a rusty pipe? Anyway you sure do learn alot owning an old volvo (89 240 wagon) Thanks for all the invaluable input. Larry b
